This rug was hand-tufted in India over 8 weeks by a small team of two tufters and a finisher. Wool pulled through a stretched cotton canvas one row at a time, then bonded at the back with natural latex and a cotton scrim. The pile was sheared by hand at the end so the ivory field sits clean against any contour the design holds, and the rug was washed and dried flat to set the surface.

The composition

A composition built around an ivory ground with the warm grain that only undyed wool produces. The pattern develops at a measured pace and the colour holds its register across the field. Read at full room scale the rug becomes a quiet ground; read at arm's length it resolves into the weave, the pull of the pile, and the slight irregularity that signals a piece worked by hand.

The piece in a room

At 8' × 10' (244 × 305 cm) the rug carries a working living room, a king bedroom, or a six-seat dining table. The ivory field reads as a considered ground for upholstery and timber, not as the thing the room is about. Lighter walls push the colour forward as a focal field; deeper walls let it settle into the architecture as a quieter register. All four legs of a sectional can sit on top with breathing space around the perimeter, which is the canonical living-room placement at this scale. Care

Vacuum gently each week, no beater bar. Loose surface fibres will shed for the first month and a half; the body of the pile is unaffected. Spot care by blotting only. A professional clean every two to three years keeps the colour and the latex backing in good condition.
