Tufted carpet making lets a designer move from drawing to floor-ready piece in weeks rather than months. The wool is pushed through a stretched cotton canvas one row at a time, then sealed at the back. The composition below is built for that direct relationship between drawing and pile.
The piece was hand-tufted in India by a team of 3 tufters and one finisher over 7 weeks. New Zealand wool was pushed through a stretched cotton canvas one row at a time with a tufting tool, then sealed at the back with natural latex and a cotton scrim that lets the rug lie flat without slipping. The last pass was carving by hand with long shears to relieve the pattern above the field by one or two millimetres. That carving is the difference between a tufted rug that reads as a piece of design and one that reads as a flat surface with paint on it. The piece reads at 9' x 12' (274 x 366 cm) in blue and beige, finished in India.
The composition
A field of blue and beige holds the composition. The drawing is set down with a discipline that lets the pattern read at distance and resolve on approach. The colour is held just below shouting volume so the rug carries a room without claiming ownership of it. The slight irregularity in the dye batches gives the field a depth that printed cloth cannot replicate, and that depth is the reason hand-finished wool keeps its place in considered interiors.
The piece in a room
9' x 12' (274 x 366 cm) is the canonical drawing-room scale. The rug expects a full sectional or a ten-seat dining table set above it, not as flooring under the furniture but as the work the room is arranged around. Mid-tone walls hold the blue saturation longer than white walls do. Direct sunlight for an hour or two a day helps the wool keep its dye depth rather than washing it out, the way it does with painted surfaces.
Care
Vacuum weekly with the beater bar disengaged. Every tufted rug loses fibre to a beater bar regardless of price. Blot spills with a clean cotton cloth, never rub. Expect light shedding for the first six weeks of use as loose fibres work themselves out of the pile. Density of the body is unaffected. Professional dry-clean every three years.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
