Persian carpets in the Peace family take their name from a strand of nineteenth-century Iranian weaving where colour was used to settle a room rather than to dominate it. The combination of green ground and red figure is older than the name. It runs back through Tabriz court production into the Safavid garden carpets, where the same opposition stood for the orchard against its blossoming trees. What survives in this rug is the equilibrium of those two saturations, neither one allowed to win against the other.
Three weavers worked the loom for close to six months. About 2.5 million asymmetric knots were tied against the cotton warp by feel rather than by chart, each row beaten down with a metal comb. The pile is hand-spun wool, yarn-dyed in the skein before the warp was strung, then washed with luster after shearing to soften the colour. The dyes are mineral and plant in combination, the green built up in successive baths to keep the slight tonal drift that distinguishes hand-dyed wool from machine pigment.
The composition
A green field carrying a central medallion in deep red, the corner spandrels echoing the medallion in lower saturation. The border is a single wide band of the same red, drawn with restraint, with no secondary guard band crowding the field. The colour will shift over the next ten years. The green will warm and the red will lose its initial heat. What now reads as contrast will, in time, read as harmony, the way a good antique reaches its true colour decades after it leaves the loom.
What you are buying
Antique medallion-and-field carpets at this scale with comparable condition sell at Christie's and Rippon Boswell in the range of $8,000 to $20,000 when they appear. This is a new weaving in the same tradition, hand-knotted, in hand-spun wool, with vegetable-leaning dyes. The rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating. There is no other object in the house with that property at this price.
The piece in a room
8' x 10' (244 x 305 cm) carries a primary living room around a sofa and two armchairs, or a six-to-eight seat dining table with the chairs pulled clear. The green and red palette holds against warm wood floors and against pale walls. It pairs with brass, leather, and unframed art. Direct sunlight helps the colour breathe rather than dulling it.
Conservation
Rotate a half turn each spring and autumn to spread wear and light evenly across the field. Vacuum weekly with the suction only, no beater bar. Blot spills with a cotton cloth. Hand wash by a wool-trained conservator every five to seven years. Stored dry and rolled, the rug runs eighty to a hundred years and outlasts its first owner.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
