Abstract field work in the contemporary rug grew out of mid-century painting and the gestural studios of the Bauhaus diaspora. The composition in this piece carries that lineage. Brushed marks, broken edges, washes of colour standing in for figure.
The palette runs through multi-tonal, balanced against passages of softer ground. The cadence of the field is built so the eye moves across rather than landing on a single focal point. The pattern was developed in graphite and ink before being committed to weave.
The composition
Washes of multi-tonal broken by passages of negative ground. The composition has no centre, which is the point. The field is built to give the room a considered floor without claiming a focal axis of its own. The pattern pairs with both saturated and muted upholstery and holds against walnut, oak, and concrete equally well.
The fibre
The fibre is heat-set polypropylene. The yarn is engineered so colour is locked in by temperature rather than by surface dye, which is why the saturation does not fade under direct sunlight the way pigment-printed work fades. The fibre also resists staining at the molecular level. Spilled wine, juice, oil, and coffee lift with a damp cloth before they set. The pile stays flat under furniture and does not shed. The result is a wool-look surface with the practical durability the wool tier cannot match in a high-traffic family room.

Care

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
