The discipline of a multi-colour Persian floral lives in the restraint of the palette rather than the abundance of it. Classical workshops worked four or five vegetable values into a cartoon and held all of them within a narrow tonal register so the rug read as a single warm ground with patterned movement, not as a collection of competing hues. The Oxidye multi-floral applies that same logic to a contemporary palette of ivory, rose, brown, and green, then ages the surface through an oxidising wash that pulls the rug back to antique character without antique fragility.

Three weavers shared a vertical loom in India for close to eight months on this piece, knotting Persian asymmetric knots over a tightly sized cotton foundation. The pile blends hand-spun wool with bamboo silk drawn through the floral highlights. After the rug left the loom it was washed in a plain bath, then in a controlled oxidising solution, then sun-dried slowly over a hardwood frame before the final shearing brought the pile down to working depth.

The composition

A warm multi-colour cartoon worked in oxidised rose, soft ivory, muted brown, and a restrained green, all held within a narrow tonal band so the field reads as a settled ground rather than a busy collection of parts. The silk highlights move with the light, lifting and disappearing as the eye crosses the rug, which is the quality that separates a real wool-and-silk piece from a wool-only weaving with surface dressing. The surface will continue to settle gently across the first year.

Rotate twice a year. Vacuum on suction only with the beater bar off. Blot spills with cotton, never rub. A professional wool-and-silk hand-wash every six to eight years preserves the patina. With this care, the rug runs eighty years and continues to settle through that life.
