The aged wool absorbed the rust at slightly varying intensities depending on the original under-drawing, producing a warm confident field with the architectural pattern visible as a deeper chromatic ghost beneath.

The composition

A warm rust across the entire field, lifted in places where the under-drawing rose ivory and softened in places where the original colour was already deep. The original Ziegler vine and palmette pattern surfaces as a near-cinnamon under-drawing, never assertive enough to compete with the new rust but always present as a textural and chromatic event. The whole reads as one architectural ground at distance and as a layered textile object up close. Surface variation in the wool keeps the colour alive.
