Complete your setup
Purple is a difficult colour to use on a carpet because it tends to dominate any room it enters. The overdye process makes it manageable. A classically drawn Persian floral field is washed down to a low pile, then lowered into an immersion bath of saturated purple, which collapses the original palette underneath the new colour but holds the discipline of the cartoon as a quieter under-pattern. The Overdyed Purple in front of you works exactly along those lines.
Two to three weavers in India spent four months at the original loom. After the base weaving was complete the rug was washed, sheared, and immersion-dyed. The dye took unevenly across the older fibre and the newer fibre, which is the effect the technique is designed to produce, the slight density variation reads as character rather than as flaw.
The composition
A deep purple field carries the ghost of a Persian floral cartoon, surfacing as plum and aubergine variations under the dominant tone. The pile sits low and the colour has a slightly uneven density across the field, which is what gives an overdyed rug its hand-finished signature. As the wool meets light, the purple will warm a shade and the under-drawing will read more clearly.
What you are buying
Equivalent overdyed pieces of this density and size trade at Western dealer prices of three to six thousand US dollars. This is a contemporary hand-knotted base with the same finishing protocol, supplied at substantially less. The carpet acquires character with age rather than losing it, which is the property that makes a serious overdye worth the difference over a printed copy.
The piece in a room
6' x 9' (183 x 274 cm) anchors a primary seating area or a generous bedroom. The purple works against cream limewash, putty walls, and walnut floors. It pairs with brass, with linen, and with mid-century furniture. The rug expects to be the colour event in the room rather than competing with patterned upholstery.
Conservation
Vacuum weekly, suction only. Rotate end-to-end twice a year. Blot spills with absorbent cotton, never rub. A wool conservator should wash the carpet every five to seven years. The rug expects an eighty-year service life on these terms.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
