Rugsville Overdyed Patchwork Multi color Wool Carpet 4' x 6'

Patchwork as a textile philosophy comes out of necessity, not aesthetics. Anatolian villages have used the technique for centuries, joining fragments of older worn rugs to extend the useful life of the fibre. The over-dyed patchwork tradition that produced this 4 by 6 ft (122 by 183 cm) piece works in the same spirit but with a deliberate visual gesture: each fragment is washed and over-dyed before assembly, so the patchwork reads as a unified colour event rather than a salvage.

This rug was hand-finished in India by a team of three artisans over close to four weeks. Wool fragments from older flatweaves and pile rugs were sorted, cropped to scale, washed to remove residual dye fastness inconsistencies, and over-dyed in small batches before being joined back-to-back with hand stitching reinforced by a cotton scrim. The colour variation across the field is the deliberate signature of the format, not an irregularity.

The composition

A patchwork field in shifting saturations of red, blue, gold, and green, all unified under a single wash that pulls the values into harmonic relation. The geometry of the seams creates a secondary composition over the patchwork, gentle gridlines that move the eye across the field. The colour is brighter than a vegetable-dyed rug and quieter than a synthetic field. The piece reads at room scale as multi-colour and at close approach as a sequence of considered fragments.

4 by 6 ft (122 by 183 cm) anchors a child bedroom, a small reading nook, a foot-of-bed runner under a queen, or a layered piece on top of a larger neutral rug. The multi-colour palette gives the rug latitude with surrounding furniture; it pairs with white walls in a modern setting or richer wall colours in a more traditional plan. The patchwork format reads more casually than a single-design rug.

Care

Vacuum weekly with the beater bar disengaged. Blot spills with a clean cotton cloth, never rub. Expect mild colour movement in the first wash; the over-dye sits on top of the original pigment and benefits from a single conservator clean within the first year to settle. Professional dry clean every two to three years. Light shedding is normal in the first weeks of use.
