Aqua sits in an unusual chromatic position: cool enough to recede, saturated enough to assert itself when concentrated. Over-dyed patchwork in aqua works because the technique gives the colour several values to work with rather than a single flat plane. The original fragments under the over-dye carry their own pile densities and weave structures, and the aqua bath registers differently across each one, which is why the field reads as movement instead of as a wash.
Three artisans worked roughly five weeks on this 6 by 9 ft (183 by 274 cm) piece in India. Wool fragments from older rugs were sorted, cropped to scale, washed, and over-dyed in small aqua batches in copper vats. The fragments were then hand-stitched together into a coherent composition with a cotton scrim back to stabilise the assembly. The seams are visible as deliberate gridlines that organise the field, not as joins to be hidden.
The composition
A field of aqua at three or four saturation values, unified by the over-dye but differentiated by each fragment original character. Underlying motifs from the source rugs ghost through the wash in passages where the pile is short, which gives the rug visual depth without competing with its colour. Aqua warms in afternoon light and cools in morning light; the rug shifts temperature with the room around it.
The piece in a room
6 by 9 ft (183 by 274 cm) suits a primary bedroom, a small living area with two seats and a low table, or a dining set for four. Aqua pairs with bone, ivory, soft grey, brushed brass, walnut, and natural linen. It works against terracotta and warm clay walls in a deliberately playful palette; it argues with red-orange and warm yellow upholstery, which fight the cool ground.
Care
Vacuum weekly with the beater bar disengaged. Blot spills with cotton; never rub. Plan a conservator clean within the first year to settle the over-dye, then a professional dry clean every two to three years. Light shedding in the first six weeks is structural and resolves on its own. Use a non-slip underlay to extend the assembly life.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
