The patchwork carpet is what the workshop does with carpets that have already lived a working life. Old village pieces are cut into usable panels, bleached, re-dyed in saturated baths, sheared down to a common pile height, and rejoined into a single rug. The result is a field of separate histories.
Two weavers at the loom for five to six weeks. The structure was built up by feel against a charted plan, with the wool spun, dyed and packed in the same workshop. Every step of the work is by hand, which is why the surface carries the slow tonal drift that distinguishes a hand-made carpet from anything industrial. The piece will continue to settle into itself for the first months of use.
The composition
The work is built on a aqua register. The geometry is sized for room scale, not for the photograph. Across distance the field reads as a single colour with movement inside it; on close approach the small variations in tone and weave become visible as the trace of a slow, hand-dyed process. The piece is built to be lived with rather than displayed, and it will deepen in colour and tighten in feel across its first year on the floor. The piece is built to be lived with rather than displayed and will continue to settle across the first year of use.
The piece in a room
4' x 6' is a bedside or hallway scale. Place it where the rug is walked on at slow tempo, where the colour and pattern have time to register on the eye. The size suits stone, oak, terrazzo and concrete floors equally and reads warmly against any of them. A low light source, a floor lamp or a wall sconce, lets the wool catch its sheen across the day.
Care
Maintenance is light and consistent. Vacuum weekly on suction with the rotary brush off; the flat structure does not respond well to a beater bar. Reverse the rug end for end every six months to balance wear across the two faces. Address spills with a dry cloth first, then a damp one. Schedule a professional clean at three-year intervals.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
