The dyes were prepared from plant sources matured for two to three weeks in copper vats before the wool was lowered, which is why the colour reads alive rather than printed.

The composition

Across a navy field the contemporary pattern moves in a measured rhythm, the corners resolved without forcing symmetry that the loom cannot deliver. The dye is plant-derived, which gives the colour the live quality that synthetic colour cannot reach. The slight unevenness in the field is the signature of the loom and the hand, and it deepens with use rather than wearing away.
