Hand-spun wool, hand-knotted on a cotton foundation. The pile carries the slight irregularity that distinguishes a one-of-a-kind weaving from a copy. Each knot was tied by feel against a vertical warp, the cartoon redrawn at scale for the loom and adjusted by the weaver as the design built up under their hands.
The weaving took 1 weaver about 2 months. 345,600 knots, hand-tied, on a cotton foundation. The neutral wool was washed and stretched after the rug came off the loom to settle the pile and align the colours. A final hand shear evened the surface so the cartoon reads cleanly from above and on the diagonal.
The composition
The neutral ground is open enough to let the contemporary drawing carry the composition, and the borders are restrained rather than competitive. Light falling across the pile shifts the saturation from morning to evening. Wool dyed this way ages into its character rather than out of it, which is the opposite of what happens to most floor coverings sold at any price point.

Antique pieces in this lineage with comparable condition trade through Christie's, Sotheby's, and Rippon Boswell at multiples that run into lakhs of rupees when they appear at all. This is a new weaving in the same tradition, on the same kind of loom, in the same fibre, at a fraction of that auction figure. A hand-knotted wool carpet appreciates with use rather than depreciating, which is true of almost no other object you place on a floor.
The piece in a room
At 2'6" x 8' (76 x 244 cm) the rug carries a entry or reading nook room. Place it under the principal seating, not the table alone, and let the neutral field ground the upholstery. A flexible ground for most palettes; pairs comfortably with both cool and warm rooms.
Conservation
Conservation is straightforward. Weekly vacuum on suction only, no beater bar. Rotate twice a year. Blot spills with clean cotton, never rub. Schedule a hand wash by a wool-trained cleaner every five years. Treated this way the rug outlasts the room around it.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
