The composition in front of you belongs to a tradition of drawing that has migrated across four centuries of Persian, Anatolian, and Indian workshops. The pattern reads as a single composed field. This piece is hand-knotted in India.
A single weaver worked the pattern across about three months, every knot tied by hand against a vertical loom. The wool and silk was selected for staple length and lustre, the cotton warp tensioned to keep the field square as the pile grew row by row. After the last row was tied, the pile was sheared, the back was sized, and the rug was hand-washed and laid out to set in indirect sun.
The composition
A green and grey ground, a composed pattern in deeper tones, and a quietly drawn border. The rug is built to age. Saturation softens, contrast deepens, the field warms. A naturally dyed wool of this kind does not arrive complete; it arrives ready to start.

The price is held by the workshop pricing this piece as new production rather than as a collector lot. The construction, the wool and silk, the knot density, and the drawing are all auction grade. The piece appreciates with use; ten years in, it reads like a softened antique rather than a new rug.
The piece in a room
At 2' × 3' (61 × 91 cm) the rug anchors an entry mat or layered accent piece. Warm chalk, plaster pink, or a deeper navy accent wall let the green and grey field settle as a considered ground. The drawing reads from a standing viewer, then resolves at chair-side. Furniture sits on the rug rather than around it; this is a piece that wants the conversation organised over its surface.
Conservation
Rotate a half turn each spring and autumn so light and traffic age the rug evenly. Vacuum weekly with suction only, beater bar disengaged. Blot spills with a clean cotton cloth, never rub. A wool-trained conservator should hand-wash the piece every five to seven years. Cared for this way, the rug runs eighty to a hundred years and outlives its first owners.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
