The composition is built around a central medallion drawn from the transitional Indo-Persian vocabulary that crystallised in the late nineteenth century. Everything else in the rug works in service of that medallion. The corner spandrels echo it. The vining border quotes its inner repeat. The ground stays open so the medallion has somewhere to sit. Transitional weaving of this kind keeps the geometric discipline of the older Persian tradition and softens the colour for contemporary interiors.
Two to three weavers worked a vertical loom for roughly four months. The pile is a wool blend with silk highlight passes inserted at the medallion and the corner spandrels, knotted by hand row by row on a cotton warp. The silk lifts the high points of the drawing into a different reflective register than the surrounding wool, which is why a silk-and-wool weaving reads three-dimensional under raking light where an all-wool weaving reads as a flat field. The beige ground is undyed wool, the copper tones come from a madder-and-walnut combined dye lot, and the silk takes the same dyes at higher saturation.
The composition
A beige field holds a central copper medallion drawn in soft floral lines, with corner spandrels picking up the same copper at lower saturation. The border carries a vine and rosette repeat in copper, beige, and a touch of pale ivory. Under direct light the silk passes catch and release as the eye crosses the rug, which gives the composition a quiet animation that the wool ground does not. Beige and copper deepen together over years of use rather than separating.
What you are buying
Comparable Indo-Persian silk-highlighted carpets from this design school sell at Western dealer retail in the $7,000 to $15,000 range at this scale. The price you are paying is below that band because the rug is sold direct from the workshop rather than through a Western intermediary chain. The construction is hand-knotted, the silk is real silk, and the wool is hand-spun. The piece appreciates with use rather than depreciating.
The piece in a room
5' x 7' (152 x 213 cm) is the working scale for a primary bedroom set under a queen frame, an entry hall, or a small sitting area arranged around a pair of armchairs and a low table. The beige and copper palette settles against cream, lime-washed, or pale ochre walls. Brass and walnut joinery tie the silk highlights into the room. The medallion expects to be visible rather than mostly covered by furniture.
Conservation
Rotate the rug each spring and autumn. Vacuum weekly with suction only, never with a rotating brush bar; silk passes are damaged by mechanical agitation. Blot spills with a clean dry cotton cloth at first contact and avoid water on the silk highlights. A wool-and-silk-trained conservator should hand-wash the rug every five years.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
