Three weavers shared the loom for around five months in India. The pile blends wool with silk laid into the central floral incidents and the corner medallions, the silk spun finer than the wool so the field reads matte and the pattern reads luminous. Asymmetric knotting on cotton foundation, all hand-tied against a vertical beam. The tonal palette is built from undyed and lightly dyed wool, which means the carpet warms gradually with age rather than fading.

The composition

Two registers of beige, one closer to oatmeal and one to bone. Silk highlights pick out the floral medallion and the corner work in a softer cream. There is no border in the conventional sense, only a measured guard band that frames the field. The composition reads as light and shadow rather than as colour, which is why the carpet sits comfortably in a contemporary interior without losing its traditional bones.

Conservation

Rotate every six months to even the wear. Vacuum weekly on suction only, no beater bar against the silk highlights. Blot spills with absorbent cotton; do not scrub. Beige requires more diligence than a darker ground, and a conservator should hand-wash the carpet every four years to lift accumulated dust before it sets.
