The braided round rug is one of those forms that carries different histories in different places. The same circular braid shows up in the parlours of nineteenth-century New England, in the doorway mats of rural Bengal, and in the council houses of the Hopi pueblos. The form survives because it answers the same problem everywhere. A flat, round, woven floor that does not fray and does not need a backing.
This multicolour round was hand-braided in India by 1 weaver over two weeks. Jute was twisted into long ropes and then coiled and stitched outward from the centre. The whole rug is reversible. Nothing on the back, no glue, no scrim, just the same braid you see on top. It will outlast the piece of furniture you place above it.
The composition
The drawing keeps to a multicolour register and works a measured scale across the field. The motif lives in low relief above the ground rather than fighting it for attention. Light catches the pile differently depending on direction, and the field switches between a slightly darker and lighter reading as you walk around the carpet. The composition is finished rather than busy, which is the harder of the two outcomes to achieve on a hand-made loom.
The piece in a room
The round format at 2' round (2' round, 61 cm diameter) is the working scale for entry foyers, between-the-beds bedside placement, and for the centre of a small library or sitting room. A circular rug pulls the eye into the centre of a space and gives a square room a counterpoint geometry. Multicolour pairs well with mid-tone wood and with painted plaster walls.
Care
Use a low-suction vacuum and skip the beater bar. The rug is reversible, so rotating and flipping it on a quarterly cycle will keep both faces and all four corners wearing evenly. Spot clean with mild soap and cool water. Lay flat to dry if washed. A pad below the rug stops it from creeping under regular traffic.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
