The bast fibre called jute carries one of the longest continuous uses in any natural textile, woven into cordage and floor mats on the Bengal floodplains for as long as written history reaches.
Two weavers carried the loom for 2 weeks, the weft beaten down hard against the warp with a hand comb at every pass. The structure is reversible end to end; either face can sit up. The jute / sisal is hand-spun before weaving, the strands twisted to a working diameter the loom can absorb without buckling. Hand-spun yarn carries a small irregularity in twist that gives the woven surface its slightly textile rather than industrial character. The same fibre worked on a powered loom would lose that quality.
The composition
A multi-tone field carrying the geometry as a graphic block, the flat surface giving the colour a matte register that holds steady through changing light. The pattern is built into the cloth rather than printed onto it, which is why the back of the rug carries the same design as the front in mirror. The piece reads differently from across the room than from close range. At distance the multi-tone reads as a single ground; on approach the structural register of the weave and the small irregularities in the dye come through as the actual surface of the work.
The piece in a room
4' × 6' (122 × 183 cm) is the working scale for a sun room, an open kitchen, a long hallway, the floor under a dining table where a wool pile would crush against the chair legs. The multi-tone fibre pairs with rattan, cane, raw timber, white-painted brick, indoor planting, and bleached linen.
Care
Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush. Blot any spill with a dry white cloth, then with a barely damp cloth if a stain remains. Both sides of the rug are usable, so reversing it through the year keeps the wear balanced. A professional clean every two years from a textile specialist keeps the structure tight and the colour bright.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
