Flatweave construction predates pile by several centuries. The weft passes over and under the warp without a knot, building a tight, reversible fabric that lies flush to the floor. The technique is plain. The compositions it produces are not. A flatweave reads as a graphic field rather than as a pile carpet, which is why it sits so easily inside contemporary architecture.
This piece was hand-woven on a flat loom in India over roughly 2 weeks. The weft was packed by hand against the warp without a knot, building a tight reversible fabric that sits flush to the floor. The white register was dyed at the yarn before the weft entered the loom, which is what gives the colour its even depth and lets the field hold its register on both faces.
The composition
A diamond grid over a near-white field with subtle tonal variance from the natural fibre. The repeat tightens at the centre and opens toward the borders, giving the field a centre of gravity without a literal medallion. The negative space inside the pattern carries as much weight as the figure, which is the discipline a confident composition relies on.
The piece in a room
At 2' × 3' (61 × 91 cm) the rug works as an accent piece. Inside a doorway, beside a bed, in the workspace under a chair, or as a layered second rug above a flatweave base. Small enough to move when the room rearranges and weighty enough to anchor a defined zone for the time it sits. The white register meets most palettes already on the floor and is rarely the colour around which a room is rebuilt. Reads against limewashed walls, plaster finishes, and stone-coloured paint in the cooler half of the spectrum.
Care
Vacuum on the lowest suction setting, weekly. Avoid beater bars, which catch the surface yarns. Spot clean with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. The rug is reversible and can be flipped to balance wear over the years.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
