The jute crop has anchored the rural textile economy of eastern India for two millennia, the unspun fibre carrying the rough golden register that turns up in finished work as the natural ground colour. The neutral reading in this piece sits in the contemporary end of that arc.
Flatbed loom work over 4 weeks by two weavers. The dhurrie carries the design as colour blocks set into the weft, no pile to crush, no knot to slip; the surface is the structure of the cloth. The jute / sisal carries its colour with the slight tonal variation only natural fibre and small-batch dye produce. No two square feet of the rug read identically; that irregularity is the difference between a hand-loomed piece and a printed copy. The yarn was sourced and spun specifically for this production batch rather than pulled off general inventory, and the colour register stays consistent across the full run of the rug.
The composition
A multi-tone ground worked through with geometry the form has carried for two centuries. Flat-weave does not hide its construction; the visible weft is part of the design and reads as a deliberate textural element rather than as something to look past. The flat construction means the rug takes a few weeks to settle into the floor it lives on. The first month of use will produce a slight relaxation in the structure as the weave finds its working tension, after which the dimensions stabilise and the rug holds shape for years.

6' × 9' (183 × 274 cm) is sized for an entry hallway, an open dining footprint, a sun room, or a verandah with covered seating. The multi-tone carries the rough, structural quality the form has had since the Bengal floodplains began producing the fibre commercially.
Care
Vacuum weekly with the beater bar off. Spot clean with mild soap on a clean cloth and blot dry. A flat-weave can be dry cleaned by a textile specialist every two to three years. Reverse seasonally to even out the wear; both faces are working surfaces and the rug benefits from rotation. Avoid extended direct sun on saturated areas of the dye, and use a thin underlay to keep the rug from sliding on hardwood or stone.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
