Complete your setup
Berber weavers in the Atlas have always treated the Beni Ourain ground as a place to think rather than as a surface to decorate, and the Taza variant of the tradition leans further into that quiet than most. Where the Azrou pattern carries a closed diamond lattice, the Taza drawing opens the lattice into intersecting linework, with lines that meet, cross, and continue past each other so the field reads as a hand-drawn grid rather than as a repeating motif. The result is more architectural and a little less tribal.
This 9' x 12' (274 x 366 cm) carpet was woven by four weavers over roughly six months. The wool is undyed highland fleece, hand-carded and hand-spun so the slight beige-to-cream variation between fleeces carries through the ground. The dark passages of the linework are dyed sparingly with walnut hull, kept thin so the lines read as drawing rather than as bands. The carpet was knotted in India in the Berber idiom, on a vertical loom, with the symmetric knot the tradition has used since the village period.
The composition
An undyed beige ground carries a loose grid of dark walnut linework, drawn so the intersections vary slightly across the field. The pile is long and the wool is unwashed beyond the initial scour; the off-white is the natural colour of the fleece. There is no border, no medallion, no centre. The carpet operates as a textile field with a drawn grid floating across it, which is the source of the Beni Ourain idiom's enduring popularity in modern interiors.
What you are buying
Authentic Beni Ourain carpets in this scale and fibre quality price in the international interior trade between $4,000 and $9,500. This is a hand-knotted piece in the same Atlas tradition, in undyed highland wool, with the same long pile and the same loose drawn grid. The piece appreciates with use as the wool develops its lanolin patina, and the structure is durable enough to outlast its first owners with regular care.
The piece in a room
9' x 12' (274 x 366 cm) sits well in a living area arranged around a low sofa, in a primary bedroom under the foot of a king bed, or in a study fronting a desk and reading chair. The undyed palette pairs well with raw oak, walnut, leather, brass, linen, and travertine; it is unusually forgiving of mixed upholstery colour because it has no agenda of its own. The drawn grid reads better against pale walls than against saturated ones.
Conservation
Rotate a half turn each season so the long pile settles evenly under traffic. Vacuum weekly on suction with the beater bar disengaged; a beater bar damages every long-pile wool carpet regardless of price. Shake the piece out monthly if practical. Hand-wash by a wool-trained conservator every five to six years. Spot clean small spills with cold water and a clean cotton cloth before they set.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
