Wool dyed in grey is the only fibre that carries the colour saturation and the structural memory a hand-knotted carpet needs at this density. The fleece used here was hand-spun before dyeing, which leaves the slight irregularity that scatters light across a pile and gives a wool rug its quiet luminescence. The cotton foundation underneath holds the rug flat against subfloor movement and seasonal humidity.
2 to 3 weavers worked the loom for 3 months. The Moroccan diamond grid was followed from a master cartoon, knot by knot. The rug was shorn flat, then wash-finished by hand to settle the pile. Made in India in a workshop that has been weaving in this tradition for two generations.
The composition
The Moroccan diamond grid runs across a grey field. The single-tone composition lets the geometry do the work, and the wool's natural variation carries the eye. Over the first ten years the colour shifts subtly as the wool releases lanolin and the pile compacts, and the rug arrives ready to start that ageing rather than stop it.

At this price the rug is a working entry to hand-knotted wool collecting. The fibre, foundation, and technique are the same the workshop uses for pieces that sit at four or five times this price in retail. The piece lasts decades and earns patina rather than wear.
The piece in a room
At 5' x 8' (152 x 244 cm) the rug frames a sitting cluster with a low table and seating partly on the field, or anchors a primary bedroom. The colour holds its place against painted walls in any neutral tone, and rewards a strong accent piece in the room. The palette sits comfortably with mid-tone wood, polished brass, and oiled leather. Keep upholstery quiet so the rug holds the line.
Conservation
Turn the rug end for end each spring and autumn. Vacuum weekly, suction only, no brush bar. Lift spills with a dry cotton cloth, never rub, and follow with a damp cloth and a drop of mild wool wash if the spill carries colour. A specialist hand-wash every five years restores the lustre. The rug is built to last several generations under reasonable use.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
