Dhurrie dhurries grew out of household weaving where the loom was set up in the courtyard and the design was carried in the weaver's memory rather than from a cartoon. The composition here works in that lineage, with the beige palette built from a small disciplined dye library rather than an open-ended colour wheel.
Hand-weaving the piece took three to four weeks. The weft is hand-dyed wool packed tightly across a cotton warp until the surface is dense enough to lie flat without underlay. There is no knot count to quote because there is no pile; the structure is the surface. The weaver beats each row down with a hand comb before the next pass, building the density that gives the rug its weight and its lie.
The composition
A beige palette built around the dhurrie drawing. The contrast is calibrated low so the rug works as a ground rather than as a graphic statement. Over years the dye depth shifts subtly under traffic and light, and the pattern emerges from the wear rather than retreating from it. The wool surface holds shadow at the cut edges, which is what gives a hand-finished rug its physical depth on the floor.
The piece in a room
A 4' x 6' (122 × 183 cm) rug works as the centre of a small living grouping, under a queen bed, or in a dining nook for four to six. The beige palette gives the room its ground without claiming the focal position. The rug behaves as the architectural plane the furniture floats on, which is the proper job of a rug at this scale; the eye should land on the seating or the art, not on the floor itself.
Care
Light vacuuming keeps the weave clean. Spills blot up easily because there is no pile to trap them. Rotate the rug every six months for even wear. A flatweave is generally reversible; check the back periodically and use the underside for an extra year of life if the face is worn. Use a non-slip underlay on hard floors; flatweaves slide more than pile rugs and an underlay also adds a small cushion underfoot.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
