The dhurrie is the Indian counterpart to the kilim of Turkey and the navajo of the southwestern US. A flat-woven rug with the pattern carried in the weft. No pile, no knots, just the geometry built up one row at a time on a horizontal loom. The form has run in continuous workshop production across western India for two centuries, and the vocabulary of stripes, blocks, and stepped diamonds is shared across every culture that has ever woven on a flat loom.
Hand-woven in India by 1 weaver over two weeks. Jute weft on a cotton warp. The flatweave structure is reversible. The green colour sits in the fibre rather than on the surface, and the rug folds for storage or transport without distress to the body.
The composition
The palette runs around green with quiet supporting tones drawn into the body of the field. Pattern density tightens at the centre and opens toward the edges, so the rug works as a single composed surface rather than a tile. Under direct light the colour deepens. Under indirect light it softens. The piece is built to age inside a room rather than to look static against it. Each year of use adds a small layer of patina the loom cannot reproduce.
The piece in a room
At 2' x 3' (2' x 3' (61 x 91 cm)), the carpet slots into the smaller geometries of a flat: under a side table, beside a bed, inside a reading corner, or as a zone marker on a larger neutral floor. The green palette pairs with saturated wall paint and with bare wood floors equally well.
Care
Vacuum gently with the beater off. The flatweave structure means the rug can be flipped twice a year so both faces wear evenly. Blot spills, never rub. For deeper cleaning, hand wash with cool water and mild soap, lay flat to dry. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight on the same panel of the field across long stretches of the year.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
