Floral carpet drawing in the Persian tradition is a discipline of its own. Each rosette and vinework swirl is set down by feel against a vertical loom. The composition below carries that drawing forward without falling into the busyness that lesser floral repeats produce.
The piece was hand-tufted in India by a team of 3 tufters and one finisher over 6 weeks. New Zealand wool was pushed through a stretched cotton canvas one row at a time with a tufting tool, then sealed at the back with natural latex and a cotton scrim that lets the rug lie flat without slipping. The last pass was carving by hand with long shears to relieve the pattern above the field by one or two millimetres. That carving is the difference between a tufted rug that reads as a piece of design and one that reads as a flat surface with paint on it. The piece reads at 8' x 10' (244 x 305 cm) in green, finished in India.
The composition
Vinework in green runs corner to corner with the irregular grace plant dye produces. The pattern is denser at the centre and opens toward the borders, so the eye reads the rug as a single composition rather than as a tile that repeats. The rosettes are drawn at a scale that registers from across a room without losing their internal detail to anyone who walks closer.
The piece in a room
8' x 10' (244 x 305 cm) is the working scale for medium living rooms and primary bedrooms. The green register pairs with linen upholstery, walnut, brass, and unframed canvases. It does not pair well with strongly patterned upholstery. The rug expects to be the only graphic element in the composition. Mid-tone walls let the field carry the room, and a single statement light source overhead reveals the slight pile relief that screen photographs always flatten out.
Care
Vacuum on suction only for the first month, then with the beater bar off thereafter. Light shedding settles in four to six weeks. Spot-clean spills with cold water and mild detergent, blotting outward from the centre. Professional dry-cleaning every two to three years keeps the pile bright.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
