The Persian carpet tradition, four centuries of accumulated drawing and dye knowledge, produced the templates that every other weaving culture has either absorbed or argued with. This rug works inside that grammar, hand-knotted in India.
Two to three weavers sat at the loom across five to six months of continuous work. Wool hand-spun in small lots, dyed in copper vats, then knotted against a cotton warp by feel rather than count. The back of the rug carries the drawing as clearly as the face does, which is the structural test of a carpet woven properly through every row.
The composition
The field reads first: a calm ivory ground, with a Persian pattern drawn in restrained colour. Closer in, the small variations in dye lot that only hand-spun wool can give. The drawing was carried at full scale on a cartoon hung behind the loom; the weaver worked from it row by row, by sight.
What you are buying
What you are paying for is the months of weaver-time, the hand-spun wool, the dye work, and the design lineage. Comparable antique pieces in good condition trade well above this price in the international market. The rug appreciates with careful use rather than depreciating.
The piece in a room
A 6' × 9' (183 × 274 cm) format works as a primary bedroom or a six-seat dining table. The ivory field gives the room an axis. Walnut, oak, linen upholstery, leather sit comfortably on it; the geometry pairs poorly with strongly patterned upholstery, where the rug expects to be the only graphic element holding the floor.
Conservation
Rotate a half turn each spring and autumn so light and traffic age the rug evenly. Vacuum weekly with suction only, beater bar disengaged. Blot spills with a clean cotton cloth, never rub. A wool-trained conservator should hand-wash the piece every five to seven years. Cared for this way, the rug runs eighty to a hundred years and outlives its first owners.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
