Floral repeat patterns in carpet drawing trace back to the Persian gardens of the Safavid court. Vines, palmettes, and rosettes arranged as a remembered landscape. The hand-tufted technique was developed in the second half of the twentieth century as a way to produce dense, painterly carpets without the time horizon of hand-knotting. The form has been refined for fifty years and now sits comfortably alongside the older tradition.
This rug was hand-tufted in India over 4 weeks by two tufters and a finisher. Wool yarn was pushed through stretched cotton canvas one row at a time, then sealed at the back with natural latex and a cotton scrim. The last pass was done with hand shears, carving relief into the pattern so the drawing reads cleanly at room scale rather than dissolving into noise.
The composition
A saturated grey ground with the drawing carved a few millimetres above the field. The relief catches light differently as you move around the room. The yarn is wool, dense enough to walk on barefoot and resilient enough to hold its hand under furniture for years. The carved relief lifts the drawing about two millimetres above the field. That single dimensional shift is what separates a tufted rug that reads as decoration from one that reads as a designed surface.
The piece in a room
size as listed works under a working living room, a generous bedroom, or a smaller dining setting. The grey colour pairs with both warm and cool wood floors, with leather and linen upholstery, and with painted walls that lean toward chalk rather than gloss. Light walls push the field forward. Darker grounds let it sit deeper into the architecture. Allow the rug to extend a foot or so beyond seating on each side. The drawing reads better with breathing room than crowded under furniture.
Care
Vacuum weekly, suction only. Blot any liquid immediately. Light shedding through the first six weeks of use is normal as loose fibre works free of the pile. Schedule a professional dry-clean every two to three years.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
