The brief for this piece began with a sketch and ended with a hand-finished pile that holds the original drawing's intent. Tufting respects the line in a way that knotting, with its grid logic, cannot quite match, which is why so much contemporary studio work is now produced in this format. This blue wool piece works that translation in the medallion structure, drawn first as a cartoon and then transferred line by line onto a stretched canvas.
The piece was tufted across 5 weeks. 2 hands at the canvas plus a finisher who carves the pile down to the design line so the figure sits a millimetre proud of the ground. The latex backing is applied warm and cured under weight overnight to ensure the bond holds for the working life of the rug.
The composition
Saturation was the first decision. The blue was built up across multiple dye baths to reach a depth that printed pile cannot match. The medallion structure is then relieved by hand-shearing so it sits on the field rather than blending into it. The wool carries a faint sheen that comes from the lanolin retained in the fibre during a controlled wash, which is what gives a hand-tufted rug its quiet glow under lamp light.
The piece in a room
A 7' round (213 cm diameter) round breaks the orthogonal logic of a square room. It belongs under a circular dining table, in a reading nook with a single armchair, or beneath a pendant light that pulls the eye downward. The blue pairs cleanly with walnut, oak, brass and linen; it works against both painted plaster and exposed brick.
Care
Vacuum once a week, brush head off. Light shedding for the first month or two is normal as short fibres work loose. Treat spills by blotting, not rubbing, and never let liquid sit on the surface. Schedule a professional dry-clean every couple of years to lift accumulated soil from the cotton scrim and protect the latex bond underneath.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
