Repeated geometric modules build into an all-over field where every block sits in considered relation to every other. The pattern is the kind a Bauhaus designer would have drawn in 1925, restated in the language of a contemporary textile studio.

The pattern began as a drawing in the studio, was rendered into a digital cartoon, and reaches the loom as a colour code the jacquard mechanism reads one warp at a time. The discipline is closer to the planning of an offset print than to the improvisation of a hand-knotted weaving, and it is the source of the pattern's clean register.

The fibre

Heat-set synthetic yarn at a density engineered for traffic. The fibre is colourfast under direct sunlight, resistant to most household stains, and forgiving of furniture compression. The pile is built to hold its appearance across a long household life cycle, with no specialist conservation schedule to keep up with.

The composition

The shapes interlock at the angles the loom permits and the colour blocks separate at the edges where the warp threads divide. The field reads as a single graphic event rather than as a repeating tile. The dominant tones read as grey.

The piece in a room

5' x 8' (152 x 244 cm) is the canonical scale for a primary living room with a sectional or two facing sofas above it. The composition is built to be read from the standing height of someone walking into the room. The piece carries an interior that asks for a graphic ground without an antique commitment. Engineered for traffic the wool tier would not survive. A primary corridor, a dining floor, a lobby, a child's room. The pattern reads as a considered ground rather than as a budget compromise, and the construction holds up under the kind of household life that would shorten the life of a hand-knotted piece.

Care

Vacuum once a week on standard setting. Blot spills with a clean cloth; the heat-set yarn does not absorb most stains. The pile is engineered to recover from compression, so the marks left by furniture lift on their own within hours of moving the piece.
