Three artisans shared the tufting frame for around six weeks in India. Pure yarn-dyed wool was looped through a stretched cotton canvas, the height of each row controlled by a guide bar so the surface stays even, and the entire reverse sealed with natural latex and a cotton scrim. The pile is left uncut, which is why the carpet reads as a single graphic field rather than as a velvety surface.

The composition

Rust dominates without crowding the eye, because the loop pile reflects light at one consistent angle and the colour reads as a steady value across the whole field. The graphic motifs come forward where the shorter loops sit raised against the longer ones, producing relief without contrast change. Wool yarn-dyed before tufting holds the rust deep into each fibre, which means the colour will mellow rather than fade over years of use.

Vacuum weekly with the beater bar disengaged so loops are not pulled at the foundation. Loop pile holds dust differently from cut pile and benefits from a more frequent light vacuum rather than an occasional aggressive one. Address spills immediately with a clean cotton cloth, blotting from the edge in. Schedule a professional dry clean every three years.
