About about four weeks of work for two tufters and a finisher. The pile is pushed through stretched canvas one row at a time, then trimmed by hand to bring the transitional into relief. The tufting tool is held like a pencil; the operator follows a drawing chalked onto the canvas, building colour fields one row at a time from the back of the work.
The composition was tufted over about four weeks by a small workshop team. Wool yarn pulled through a primary backing with hand-held tufting guns, then cropped down by a finisher with long shears. The relief between transitional and ground is set in the cropping, not in the drawing.
The composition
Three values of grey layered against the transitional structure. The interplay gives the surface its movement. There is no single focal point. The eye crosses the field rather than landing in one place, which is how a rug at this size lives in a room without dominating it. The composition was drawn so the secondary motifs read as supporting rhythm rather than as separate events.
The piece in a room
The 5' x 8' (152 × 244 cm) format anchors a flat living room, a guest bedroom, or a dining set for four. The transitional drawing holds at conversational viewing distance and resolves cleanly when walked across. Pair with linen or cotton upholstery in close-value neutrals, a low coffee table that sits inside the rug perimeter, and curtain drops in a tone close to the rug ground rather than in contrast.
Care
Weekly vacuum, beater bar off. Spills lift with a cotton blot and cool water. Initial shedding is normal and resolves within a month or two. Professional dry-clean roughly every three years to keep the pile clean and the backing intact. The cotton scrim under the latex protects the structure of the rug, but heavy water exposure should still be avoided; never wet-clean a tufted rug at home.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
