Rugsville Libby Floral Red Persian Carpet 5'3" x 7'1"

The studio worked the design across several iterations of paper before approval. The line of descent runs from the geometric kilims of central Anatolia through the Bauhaus exercises in colour theory into the calm modern compositions that European design houses began commissioning in the last decade.

A floral lineage carried in a red palette: medallion, scrolling vine, framed border, the same architecture that defines the older Persian and Mughal carpets. The colour reads with the saturation that engineered fibres hold under both daylight and tungsten. The drawing was adapted from older formal sources but redrawn for the loom this rug was made on, with the corner spandrels and the central rosette resized so the composition holds at this rectangle.

The fibre

Heat-set polypropylene. The colour is locked at the fibre level by temperature rather than dipped at the surface, which is why direct sunlight does not wash the saturation out the way it bleaches pigment-printed yarns. The fibre resists staining at the molecular level: spilled wine, juice, oil and coffee lift with a damp cloth before they set. The pile stays flat under furniture and does not shed.

The composition

The rug sits as the considered ground of a room rather than the focal motif. Pairs well with walnut, oak, brass, leather, and linen. Pairs poorly with strongly patterned upholstery; the red field expects to be the only graphic in the composition. The fibre takes light differently from wool: flatter, less glossy, with a more uniform reading across the field, which is part of what makes the engineered yarn well suited to busy rooms.

The piece in a room

5' x 7' (152 x 213 cm). The size suits a medium living room, a primary bedroom under the bed and night tables, or a study set up around a partner desk. The red reading carries cleanly under both warm tungsten and cool LED. Pet hair and crumbs lift easily under a routine vacuum.

Care

Vacuum weekly with the beater bar engaged or disengaged, the fibre tolerates either. Spot clean with mild detergent on a clean cotton cloth. Machine wash on a cold cycle if a spill does not lift; the size folds to fit a domestic drum. Dries flat in two hours. No professional cleaning required, no rotating-brush damage to worry about, no shedding into the room air.
