The Tibetan loop knot, also called the Senneh loop, is one of the few weaving techniques where the knot is tied around a metal rod laid across the warps rather than around the warps themselves. When the rod is pulled out and the loops are sliced open, the resulting pile is denser and more even than what you get from a Persian or Turkish knot at the same KPSI. This rug uses that technique to carry a deep red ground with old-gold pattern work in the manner of mid-century Tibetan workshops working in conversation with northern Indian colour.
Three weavers worked the loom for close to five months. The pile is hand-spun wool dyed in small batches so the red carries the slight tonal variation that vegetable-dyed pieces always show under different light. After the rug came off the loom it was sheared by hand, washed in stream water, and stretched on a bamboo frame for two weeks to settle the foundation. Roughly 1.6 million loops, each one tied by feel.
The composition
A saturated madder red ground with gold motif work moving across the field in a quiet rhythm. The pattern is distributed rather than centred, which means the rug works visually whether it sits in the middle of a room or partly under a sofa. Red of this depth is hard to achieve without the colour going dull on the edges; the wool here was over-dyed in two baths to hold the saturation. Over a decade the field will warm a quarter step toward terracotta.
What you are buying
Comparable Tibetan-loop wool pieces from Indian workshops in this density and size sit between one lakh fifty and two lakh in private dealer settings. The structural durability of the loop knot means this rug holds its shape under heavier furniture than an equivalent Persian-knotted piece. Wool of this fibre length and twist appreciates rather than shedding out, and the dye becomes more harmonious with use.
The piece in a room
6' x 9' (183 x 274 cm) is the right scale for a primary living room arrangement of a three-seat sofa with two flanking chairs, or for a bedroom anchoring a king bed with a bench at the foot. The red and gold sit comfortably with walnut, oxidised brass, and warm cream walls. Avoid pairing with cool grey walls, which fight the warmth of the dye.
Conservation
Rotate every six months to even out light exposure and traffic. Vacuum weekly with the beater bar off. Address spills with a clean cotton cloth and cold water only. Schedule a hand wash with a wool conservator every five years. With this regimen the piece will run sixty to eighty years before any restoration is required.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
