The Gabbeh tradition of the Qashqai and Luri nomads of southern Iran produced thick, naive, sparsely figured rugs woven on portable looms during the seasonal migrations between summer and winter pastures. The drawing is by feel rather than from cartoon. The motifs are personal. The weight is meant for cold ground.
A single weaver carried the loom for 3 months on this piece. Approximately 224,640 hand-tied knots at around 65 per square inch on a cotton foundation. Hand-spun wool dyed in small lots from madder, indigo, oak gall, and walnut hull, each batch matured for two to three weeks in copper vats before the wool was lowered.
The composition
A primary medallion sits over a softer secondary field. The red grounds the composition; the ivory works as relief above it. Vegetable-dyed wool gives the colour a slight irregularity that flat synthetic dye cannot match. Direct sunlight helps; UV restores the dye depth that interior light slowly washes out.

At 4' × 6' (122 × 183 cm) the rug fits a study, a foyer, or the foot of a bed. Hardwood and stone floors let the red register against a neutral ground. The scale lets the geometry be read complete from any standing position in the room.
Conservation
A vegetable-dyed hand-knotted carpet is a long-lived object. Rotate every six months. Vacuum weekly without a beater bar. Blot spills with cotton, never rub. Specialist hand-wash every five years. With this routine the rug will see out two human generations.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
