The geometric pattern in this rug was developed by a contemporary studio in dialogue with vintage source material. The drawing was iterated for several months in pencil and digital colour proof before going to the loom. What began as a study of antique textiles ended as a composition that suits a present-day living room without quoting the past too literally.

A multi chord runs through the field. The studio cycled through several rounds of yarn proofs before locking the colour balance for production. The final composition holds together as a single image rather than as a tiled motif; the eye reads the whole rug at once.

The composition

The multi field is laid out so that no single area dominates. The eye travels across the surface rather than landing in one corner. The drawing pairs with walnut, oak, brass, leather, and linen; it tolerates strongly patterned upholstery less well, since the rug is built to be the graphic note in the composition. In a room with art on the walls, hang the work in matching tonal families and let the rug do the chromatic anchoring.

The fibre

Heat-set polypropylene. The colour is locked into the fibre by temperature rather than printed onto the surface, which is why saturation does not fade under direct sunlight. The yarn resists staining at a molecular level; coffee, juice, and wine lift with a damp cloth before they set. The pile recovers from furniture compression overnight and does not shed; there is no fibre residue to vacuum out of soft furnishings around the rug.
