The Azita pattern belongs to the family of Persian floral compositions worked into Mughal court carpets in the seventeenth century, where the central medallion enclosed by spandrels in the corners and surrounded by tendril-and-blossom vine work became the formal language of the imperial workshop. The form was carried into northern India by Safavid weavers commissioned by Akbar, and the tradition of dense floral silk knotwork survived through the centuries by passing from master to apprentice in valley workshops. This 6' x 9' multi-coloured silk piece sits squarely in that lineage.
Three weavers worked this rug over roughly eight months. The pile is reeled mulberry silk from northern Indian cocoons, twisted into a fine yarn before dyeing in small batches of indigo, madder, weld, and walnut. The foundation is fine cotton warp and weft. The knot density runs into the very-fine range. Silk takes vegetable dye to a clarity that wool cannot reach, and the multi-coloured floral palette here depends on that clarity to keep the small geometry legible.
The composition
A field that runs through ivory, indigo, soft madder, gold ochre, and pistachio green, with a central medallion in ivory and corner spandrels in matching tonality. Vine work across the field connects the central elements to the corners. The border carries a layered floral meander, restrained against the activity of the field. Silk reflects light at every angle, so the multi palette appears warmer or cooler as the viewer moves around the rug, and the colour values shift with the time of day.
What you are buying
Multi-coloured silk hand-knotted rugs of this scale and density retail through Western specialists between 7,000 and 16,000 USD. Comparable pieces at auction at Sotheby's New York and Christie's London push higher when the dyes are verifiably plant-based. The rug here is at the loom-side cost. Silk floral rugs appreciate with use rather than depreciating; the surface lustre deepens with the natural oils of foot traffic over years of regular use.
The piece in a room
6' x 9' (183 x 274 cm) suits a formal sitting room with a four-seat sofa and pair of chairs, a primary bedroom with a king bed positioned mid-rug, or a dining area with a six-seat table. The multi palette pairs with walnut, brass, ivory plaster, oxblood leather, and rich textile upholstery. Silk should sit out of direct strong sun, so curtained or east-facing rooms hold the dye saturation longest.
Conservation
Rotate the rug a quarter turn every four months. Vacuum on the lowest suction setting only, no beater bar, no brush. Blot any spill immediately with a dry cotton cloth, working from the outside in. A specialist silk-trained conservator should hand wash the piece every four to six years. Never machine wash, never steam, and never use hot water.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Customer Reviews
Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
