Tan and ivory together is a quieter palette than the deep reds and indigos that dominate the silk-carpet tradition. The combination became fashionable in the late nineteenth century when European interiors began to favour pale wood, painted plaster, and the lighter neoclassical revival aesthetic, and dealers in Vienna and London commissioned weavers in the East to render the floral and medallion forms in cream-and-camel rather than the saturated ground colours of court tradition. The piece in front of you sits in that softer lineage, worked into a 6' radial silk composition.

Two weavers shared the loom for around six months. The mulberry silk is reeled from northern Indian cocoons and twisted to a fine yarn before being dyed in walnut and weld for the tan tones, with the ivory left at the natural silk colour. The cotton warp and weft are tensioned in a circular jig for the radial form. The knot density runs into the fine range, which the small floral geometry requires to remain crisp around the curve of the perimeter.

The composition

A pale ivory ground with a soft tan medallion at the centre, vine work radiating outward in muted camel and bone, and a tan-and-ivory border running the full circumference. The palette is restrained; the rug works as a tonal piece rather than a colourist one, with the value shifts between cream, ivory, beige, and tan doing the visual work. Silk reflects light differently at every angle, so the colour temperature shifts subtly as the viewer moves.

What you are buying

Pure silk round rugs at 6' diameter in soft palettes carry tags between 4,500 and 8,500 USD through Western specialists. The radial cartoon and concentric weaving technique require more skill than rectangular construction, and the soft palette in particular shows the quality of the dye work; muddy dyes betray themselves in a tan-on-ivory rug where they would hide in a deep red. The rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating.

The piece in a room

6' Round (183 cm diameter) anchors a circular foyer, sits beneath a round dining table for four, or grounds a sitting area arranged around a centre point. The tan and ivory palette pairs with bleached oak, brass, white plaster, soft leather, and pale stone floors. The piece welcomes contemporary minimalism as readily as transitional neoclassical decor, since the colour does not commit to a period.

Conservation

Rotate ninety degrees every three months. Vacuum on lowest suction with no beater bar and no brush. Blot any moisture immediately with a clean dry cotton cloth, working inward from the edge of the spill. A silk-specialist conservator should hand wash the rug every four to six years. Avoid direct sun; pale silks are the most vulnerable to fading.

Day-to-day care

  • Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
  • Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
  • Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
  • Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.

Deep cleaning

  • Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
  • Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
  • For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.

Storage

  • Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
  • Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
  • Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked

How long will shipping take?

Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.

Will the colour exactly match the photo?

Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.

Can I get a sample before buying?

Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.

What is your returns process?

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.

Do you take custom orders?

Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.

Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?

COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
