Complete your setup
Orange in silk weaving sits in a colour band that the inherited northern Indian palette rarely reaches, because the natural dye sources for the hue (madder root brought down through saffron or turmeric mordants) tend to fade or shift toward red across years of light exposure unless the chemistry is held with discipline. The rug uses orange as its anchor colour and trusts the silk lustre to carry the saturation across decades. The panel format is the structural carrier: a central diamond medallion at the heart of the field with four palmettes set on its cardinal axes, a wider central stripe of three palmette shapes connected hand to hand, and inner and outer guards rhyming the bud motifs at quieter scale.
The loom held two weavers across roughly five months. Mulberry silk pile sat on a fine cotton foundation, with every knot tied by feel using the Persian asymmetric throw at the upper Indian density range. Multiple short dye baths brought the orange up without flattening the surface. Ivory carries the medallion ground. Indigo and ochre incidents accent the floral vocabulary in the borders.
The composition
Orange is the proposition. Everything else in the rug works in service of it. Ivory at the centre cools the field at the medallion. The palmettes in the central stripe carry small accents in indigo and deeper ochre that read as figure on the orange ground. Silk pile shifts the orange between two values across the warp and weft directions, lifting different incidents through the day. The composition trusts a single colour decision and disciplines the rest of the page to support it.
What you are buying
Comparable silk pieces in the orange palette at this size carry international auction estimates of 14,000 to 28,000 dollars when antique stock surfaces, which is rarely. New weavings in the same fibre and density carry Western dealer prices at multiples of the maker's price. Silk on cotton in this format appreciates across the decades because the labour and silk grade required to commission a replacement only become harder to source.
The piece in a room
4' x 6' (122 x 183 cm) anchors a primary bedroom, a child's room, a reading corner, or the foot of a queen bed. The orange ground pairs with cream and bone walls, walnut case furniture, brass detail, and white linen upholstery. Avoid competing patterns in the same field. The rug expects to be the only graphic voice in its immediate environment, with the surrounding palette built to support it as the focal piece.
Conservation
Rotate the rug a half turn each six-month interval. Vacuum suction-only, beater bar off. Blot any spill at the moment it occurs with a clean dry cotton cloth, never rub the silk pile. Specialist hand-wash by a silk-trained conservator at five to seven year intervals. With this care the rug runs sixty years in active use and remains heritable.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
