Kashan carpets have been the formal Persian carpet for as long as the form has had a name. Court patronage at Kashan dates to the sixteenth century, and the medallion-and-pendants composition that the workshops settled on is still the template for what most buyers read as a classical Persian rug.
Around 0.2 million hand-tied knots over about three months, with One weaver sharing the loom. The wool is hand-spun, the dyes plant-derived, the cartoon worked out on graph paper before a single warp was strung.
The composition
The palette is built around ivory and rust, with the secondary tones held back so the principal colour does the work. The slight tonal shifts in the ground are the trace of small-batch dyeing, where each vat carries its own register and no two areas of the field read identically. Up close the irregularity is visible as life; from across the room it gathers into a single considered colour. The composition is read as a whole. The piece reads differently against morning light than against evening lamp; the saturation lifts in daylight and tightens after dusk.
What you are buying
The pricing reflects the workshop economics of hand-knotted weaving at this density. Antique carpets in the same tradition, when they reach Christie's, Sotheby's or Rippon Boswell, are routinely catalogued at multiples of this figure. The rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating, and the wool tightens into the foundation as the piece settles into its working life.
The piece in a room
2' x 3' fits the foot of a smaller bed, the side of a sofa, or a quiet doorway. The rug is meant to be encountered slowly at this size, with the foot tracing the geometry of the field as the body moves across it. The wool carries enough body underfoot that the piece reads as warmth as much as colour.
Conservation
A hand-knotted carpet at this density runs for decades on simple regular care. Rotate twice a year, vacuum on suction once a week, and keep the rug out of standing moisture and pet contact. Conservation cleaning by a wool specialist every five to six years preserves the plant dye and clears foundation dust that vacuuming will not reach. The wool tightens into the foundation as the rug settles in, and the colour deepens slowly across the first decade.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
