Floral design in the carpet trade descends from the Safavid garden carpets of the seventeenth century, where the rug was a paradise garden in textile form. Every later floral idiom in the trade traces back through that tradition, simplified or stylised but never entirely cut loose from it.
The composition
Madder reds carry the field, with the cooler passages settling into a deep brick and the warmer ones flaring toward rust. The saturation reads as plant dye rather than as printed pigment, the kind of red that ages into the fibre rather than sitting on top of it. Floral motifs are drawn at a measured scale, neither miniaturised into busy repeat nor blown up into wallpaper. The flowers register as drawing rather than as ornament, with the line work confident enough to hold the room.
The fibre
Heat-set polypropylene. The colour is locked into the fibre by temperature rather than applied to the surface, which is why direct sunlight does not bleach the saturation the way it bleaches dye-printed yarns. The pile resists staining at the molecular level: spilled wine, juice, oil, and coffee lift with a damp cloth before they set. The fibre stays flat under furniture, does not shed, and recovers from compression overnight. No off-gassing, no allergens, and the underside is woven rather than latex-bonded, so the rug breathes.
The piece in a room
5' x 8' (152 × 244 cm) is the working scale of an Indian living room and a primary bedroom. The rug carries the front legs of a sofa and chair set or sits fully under a queen bed with margin on three sides. Pairs with darker wood, with cream walls that hold the saturation, and with leather and brass.
Care
Vacuum weekly. Spot clean with mild detergent on a clean cloth. The fibre is engineered to release stain at the surface; most spills lift with a damp cloth before they set, and the colour does not transfer. Rotate twice a year so traffic distributes evenly. The pile is rated for high-traffic use and recovers from compression overnight.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
