The bast fibre called jute carries one of the longest continuous uses in any natural textile, woven into cordage and floor mats on the Bengal floodplains for as long as written history reaches. The piece in front of you carries that vocabulary into a neutral register.
A pair of weavers worked the dhurrie on a horizontal flatbed loom for 2 weeks, beating the weft down at every pass with a hand comb. The result is a tight, weft-faced textile that lies low against the floor. The jute / sisal is hand-spun before weaving, the strands twisted to a working diameter the loom can absorb without buckling. Hand-spun yarn carries a small irregularity in twist that gives the woven surface its slightly textile rather than industrial character. The same fibre worked on a powered loom would lose that quality.
The composition
The composition runs in natural and an answering second tone, the two colours meeting at clean, deliberate joins where the design changes. The colour holds steady because flat-weave does not produce the directional pile shading a cut-pile rug carries. The piece works as much as a textile object as a floor covering. Many serious collectors hang flat-woven work of this scale and quality on the wall for parts of the year, treating it as a graphic surface rather than as utility flooring.

At 4' × 6' (122 × 183 cm) the rug suits a covered porch, an open kitchen, a sitting area in a flat with cane and timber furniture, or a hallway. The natural reads against painted brick, white plaster, and warm timber equally well.
Care
Suction-only weekly vacuuming. Spot clean spills immediately with cool water and a white cloth, blotting rather than rubbing the area. Avoid prolonged direct sun on the dyed sections of the design. A specialist hand wash every two to three years preserves the colour and structure. Reverse the rug every season to balance fade and wear, and pad with a thin underlay against any hard floor.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
