The bast fibre called jute carries one of the longest continuous uses in any natural textile, woven into cordage and floor mats on the Bengal floodplains for as long as written history reaches. The contemporary edit in neutral keeps the form moving forward.
This dhurrie came off a flatbed loom over 2 weeks. Two weavers shared the bench, the design built up by interlocking blocks of weft colour against a continuous warp. The structure is identical on both faces. The dye registers on jute / sisal sit deep into the fibre rather than as a surface coat, which is why the colour reads with the same depth on the back of the rug as on the front. Both faces are working surfaces; many households reverse the rug at the seasons to even out the wear and the light exposure.
The composition
The composition runs in natural and an answering second tone, the two colours meeting at clean, deliberate joins where the design changes. The colour holds steady because flat-weave does not produce the directional pile shading a cut-pile rug carries. The piece reads differently from across the room than from close range. At distance the natural reads as a single ground; on approach the structural register of the weave and the small irregularities in the dye come through as the actual surface of the work.

4' × 6' (122 × 183 cm) is sized for an entry hallway, an open dining footprint, a sun room, or a verandah with covered seating. The natural carries the rough, structural quality the form has had since the Bengal floodplains began producing the fibre commercially.
Care
Suction-only weekly vacuuming. Spot clean spills immediately with cool water and a white cloth, blotting rather than rubbing the area. Avoid prolonged direct sun on the dyed sections of the design. A specialist hand wash every two to three years preserves the colour and structure. Reverse the rug every season to balance fade and wear, and pad with a thin underlay against any hard floor.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
