Carpet design at the larger scale changes its grammar. A 6' x 9' piece can carry a single dominant motif and rest on it; an 8' x 10' has to manage internal rhythm so the field does not collapse into busy noise or empty repetition. Ikat geometry is unusually well-suited to the larger format because its pillar bands give the eye natural rest points without breaking up the surface. The carpet in front of you uses that structural logic to hold a saturated red ground at a scale where less considered designs would feel overpowering.
Four weavers shared the loom for close to six months on this piece. The pile is hand-spun wool over a cotton foundation. Every row was tied to a cartoon hung at the back of the loom, and the resist-edge feathering was hand-translated knot by knot rather than printed onto the warp. After weaving, the carpet was washed in cold stream water, hand-sheared for surface evenness, and stretched on a bamboo frame for two weeks to settle the warp tension.
The composition
A red ground in three tonal depths, accented with ivory, ochre, and recessed plum running through the field as vertical bands. The wool absorbs and disperses light, so the colour stays warm and matte rather than glossy. The pattern resolves at distance as a tonal mass and at close range as detailed knot work. Over a decade the brighter accents soften and the ivory warms toward bone, with the overall composition unifying into a richer, more harmonised ground than it presents on day one.
What you are buying
Hand-knotted wool of this density at 8' x 10' with verifiable workshop lineage trades between two lakh and three lakh in private rooms across India and the United Kingdom. The Rugsville price reflects a direct workshop relationship and absorbs no dealer markup. Hand-spun wool of this length holds the pattern definition for fifty years and the rug appreciates with use, not depreciates. Comparable manufactured pieces wear out in a decade.
The piece in a room
8' x 10' (244 x 305 cm) anchors a sectional or three-seat sofa with two flanking chairs, with the rug functioning as the chromatic ground for the entire seating arrangement. The warm red works particularly well against cream limewash walls, walnut furniture, and brushed brass. It cooperates with art in saturated tones and resists being overpowered by a strong curtain, although it asks for restraint in the upholstery palette around it.
Conservation
Rotate the rug a half turn every six months so light and footfall age the surface evenly. Vacuum once a week with the beater bar off and the suction nozzle only. Blot any spill at once with a clean cotton cloth, then cold water if needed. Send the rug to a wool conservator for a professional hand wash every five years. The piece will hold for eighty to a hundred years with this attention.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
