The light blue in this ikat carpet draws on a Central Asian dye tradition that travelled through Persia and into the subcontinent over several centuries before settling into modern Indian carpet workshops. Ikat works by binding sections of the yarn before dyeing, so the dyebath cannot reach the bound zones, and the motifs that emerge on the loom carry a soft feathered edge that other resist techniques cannot reproduce. The field reads as a quiet drift of pale blue forms rather than as a graphic pattern.
Two to three weavers shared the loom for close to five months. The pile is hand-spun recycled sari silk, drawn from unpicked saris and re-spun into a carpet yarn, tied with the Persian asymmetric knot on a cotton foundation. The light blue carries the natural variation of the recycled source, with flecks of cream, ivory, and faint silver running through the field. The carpet was sheared close after weaving so the ikat motifs hold their soft contour against the ground.
The composition
Pale blue dominates with cream ikat motifs drifting through the field in a relaxed vertical motion. The silk lustre catches light at every angle, which means the carpet reads almost luminous in raking morning light and softer in flat midday illumination. The recycled fibre gives the surface a tonal depth that virgin silk would not have, and the blue will settle a half tone richer over the first five years rather than fade.
What you are buying
Hand-knotted silk carpets in this scale and density commonly trade at the European silk dealers in the ten to eighteen thousand dollar range. This is a freshly woven piece with recycled fibre, which means the construction is identical to a contemporary silk carpet but the source material carries a more sustainable provenance. A silk carpet of this density appreciates with use rather than depreciating.
The piece in a room
6' x 9' (183 x 274 cm) suits a smaller drawing room, a primary bedroom under the foot of the bed, or a dining alcove with a six-seat table. The light blue ground lifts rooms with limited natural light and pairs cleanly with brass, walnut, pale oak, and white-painted plaster. Avoid direct sunlight, which silk pile registers more sensitively than wool would.
Conservation
Rotate by a half turn every six months so light and footfall distribute evenly across the field. Vacuum weekly with the beater bar fully disengaged. Blot spills immediately with a clean cotton cloth and cool water, never rub. A silk-trained conservator should hand-wash the carpet every six to eight years using a pH-neutral wash. With this care the carpet will pass through more than one generation of ownership.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
