A cream-on-cream ikat carpet asks the eye to read pattern through tonal weight rather than contrast. The graphic logic is the same as a saturated ikat, but the palette steps down so the design works as a textural ground rather than a wall-rivalling focal piece. The classical Central Asian weavers usually reserved this register for the courtly interiors where the rest of the room was already loud, and the rug was meant to settle the architecture rather than compete with it. This piece works in that same quiet idiom.
Four weavers shared the loom for around six months on this larger ivory-ground composition. The pile is hand-spun wool over a cotton foundation. The cartoon was prepared as a tonal map and translated into knot work by reading subtle colour shifts across cream, sand, and pale ochre rows. After weaving, the rug was sheared by hand for low pile, washed in cold stream water, and stretched on a frame for ten days to settle the foundation before final cut and inspection.
The composition
An ivory field carrying tonal variations of cream, soft beige, putty, and a recessed warm grey. The pattern is laid out in vertical pillar bands characteristic of bound-warp ikat. The dye edges feather softly. The whole rug reads as a single textural ground from a distance and reveals its motif logic at close range. Wool absorbs and disperses light unlike silk, which means the cream stays warm rather than glossy, and the surface feels considered rather than reflective.
What you are buying
Hand-knotted hand-spun wool pieces of this scale and quality trade between two lakh and three lakh in private dealer rooms when the lineage holds up. The Rugsville pricing reflects direct workshop sourcing rather than a dealer markup. Wool of this length and twist holds its pattern definition for forty to sixty years before serious wear shows, and an ivory carpet's value lies in its tonal restraint, which does not date the way bolder graphics can.
The piece in a room
8' x 10' (244 x 305 cm) reads as the calm ground for a sectional with mixed upholstery, or as the substrate under a six-seat dining table where the rug should not compete with the surface above it. The ivory palette is generous to limewashed walls, oak floors, raw linen sofas, and saturated art on the walls. It cooperates with both warm and cool light and does not demand a particular colour temperature from the room's lighting plan.
Conservation
Vacuum weekly using the suction-only nozzle, with the beater bar disengaged. Rotate the rug a half turn every six months because an ivory ground reveals uneven wear earlier than a darker one. Treat any spill within minutes with a dry cotton cloth, then sponge cold water if needed. Engage a wool conservator for a professional hand wash every five years. The piece will hold for eighty to a hundred years with this regimen.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
