Hand-spun wool, hand-knotted on a cotton foundation. The pile carries the slight irregularity that distinguishes a one-of-a-kind weaving from a copy. Each knot was tied by feel against a vertical warp, the cartoon redrawn at scale for the loom and adjusted by the weaver as the design built up under their hands.
1 weaver worked the loom for 2 months. Approximately 345,600 hand-tied knots, all in navy wool, all on a single vertical warp. The cartoon was redrawn at scale before the first row was tied, and the colour was matched against a master sample held in the studio to ensure consistency across the long weaving period.
The composition
The palette is held in navy, with the Heriz motifs picked out in tones that sit a half-step away from the ground rather than fighting against it. The colour interaction is the work of plant dye, not pigment, which is why no two viewings under different light read the same. Morning sun pulls one set of values forward; evening lamp light brings out the cooler register that sits underneath.
What you are buying
An equivalent antique with similar density and pattern would land in a London or New York gallery at a higher multiple than the price here. The weaving uses the same loom geometry, the same hand-spun wool, and the same vegetable colour. It will outlive its first owners and gain rather than lose against time.

Sized at 2'6" x 8' (76 x 244 cm), the piece is built for a entry or reading nook setting. Pairs with cream upholstery, brass hardware, and walnut floors. Reads serious without being severe. The navy pile holds across walnut and oak floors equally well.
Conservation
The rug rewards patience. Rotate a half turn each spring and autumn. Vacuum weekly with the beater bar off, and resist the temptation to scrub a stain. A trained wool cleaner should handle any deeper wash. Looked after, the weaving keeps for a hundred years.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
