Complete your setup
New Zealand wool is the only fibre that takes the deep blue and rust palette of a Heriz to full saturation without dulling under interior light. The staple is longer, the lanolin content sits higher, and the fibre returns vegetable dye with a slight surface bloom that synthetic-dyed alternatives cannot reproduce. A Heriz carpet built in this fibre rather than the cheaper coarse-staple options is the difference between a rug that ages into colour and one that fades out of it.
Three to four weavers shared the loom for around five months. Hand-spun wool was tied in the Persian asymmetric knot against a cotton foundation. Indigo for the central medallion was built across four successive baths over ten days. Madder root for the rust ground was matured for three weeks in copper vats and applied across two dippings. Walnut hull and oak gall carried the borders. Total knot count across the rug runs to roughly 2.6 million.
The composition
A massive indigo medallion sits at the heart of a saturated rust ground, framed by ivory corner spandrels that complete the geometry. The classical Heriz turtle border runs in walnut and cream around the field. The rust is not stable; it will warm into deeper terracotta over the first decade, the indigo will gain depth rather than fade, and the abrash banding across the field will become more pronounced with use. The composition reads from across a room without losing its presence.
What you are buying
Antique Heriz carpets of this size with intact corners and original dye sell at Christie's, Bonhams, and Rippon Boswell between $14,000 and $35,000. This is a new weaving in the same village idiom, on the same loom, in the same fibre. The Heriz appreciates with use rather than depreciating because the dye chemistry is alive and the wool is built to take generations of footfall. No printed or factory alternative offers that property.
The piece in a room
9' x 12' (274 x 366 cm) is full drawing-room scale. The rug expects a sectional and a pair of accent chairs above it, an eight-seat dining table, or a king bed across. Pair with walnut floors, brass fixtures, walls in cream or warm grey, and upholstery in cognac leather, navy linen, or oatmeal wool. The saturated palette grounds a room rather than decorating it.
Conservation
Rotate each season so light and traffic age the surface evenly. Vacuum weekly on suction with the beater bar disengaged. Blot spills with cool water and clean cotton, working from the outside of the spill inward. Plan a wool-trained hand wash every five years. With this discipline the rug runs a hundred years and outlives its first owner.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
