Complete your setup
The Heriz tradition belongs to north-western Persia, where village weavers translated the floral courtly idiom into a tougher, more graphic vocabulary built for everyday use.
Around 414,720 Persian-asymmetric knots, hand-tied to a cotton foundation by a single weaver over 4 months. The wool was washed, carded, and spun by hand before it ever met dye. Dovetailed selvedges and original fringe, finished as the weave came off the loom.
The composition
The composition centres on the rust field, with the drawing arranged so the eye moves rather than landing on a single point. Every element is sized to read at the scale of the room rather than the scale of the loom. Dye saturation moves slightly across the field, the way hand-spun yarn always does, and the variation reads as breath rather than as flaw. Hand-trimmed pile holds the drawing tight. Look across the rug in raking light and the rust ground reveals the slow lateral variation of dye that only a hand-spun fibre carries. What the rug is now is the starting condition. The patina is the long-term composition, and a well-made hand-knotted carpet is engineered to gain rather than lose through that process.
What you are buying
A hand-knotted wool rug at this price is a bargain by every standard the trade uses. The same loom, the same knotting, the same materials a buyer would expect at twice the figure. The rug holds its value through use.
The piece in a room
4' × 6' (122 × 183 cm) sits well under a hallway, a smaller bedroom, or a defined seating nook. The rust ground holds against painted walls in chalk, plaster, or warm white, and against natural wood joinery. Painted walls in chalk, plaster, or warm white hold the saturation. Direct sunlight refreshes the colour. A low underlay extends the life of the rug and keeps it from creeping on a polished floor. Choose a felted underlay rather than rubber to avoid trapping moisture.
Conservation
Two rotations a year, suction-only vacuuming, immediate blotting on spills, and a conservator wash every five to seven years. The pile will mellow with use rather than wear away.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
