Contemporary geometry on the floor does what mid-century Scandinavian textiles did for the wall. The composition is built around restraint, the colour palette is limited by intent, and the rug does not announce itself in a room.

The colour register on this piece holds two values of blue against a paler ground, with secondary accents that bring the composition into balance. The studio worked the drawing in chalk and gouache for several months, refining the proportions and the colour ratios, before approving it for production. What reaches the loom is the result of that drafting work, not a quick sketch handed to a weaver.

The fibre

Heat-set polypropylene. The colour is locked into the fibre by temperature rather than by a surface dye, which is why direct sunlight does not bleach the saturation out the way it does with surface-printed pile. The fibre resists staining at a molecular level. Wine, juice, oil, and coffee lift with a damp cloth before they set, which is the property that makes the rug practical in dining rooms and high-traffic living areas where wool would not survive without specialist cleaning.

The composition

The blue ground holds the eye at distance and the secondary motif rewards a closer look. Pair with leather, linen, or wool upholstery in muted tones; the rug carries enough graphic information that strongly patterned soft furnishings will fight it. The composition was built for the floor specifically, with the proportions calibrated for the angle of view that comes from standing rather than from holding the textile in hand.

The piece in a room

5' x 8' (152 × 244 cm) suits a medium living room, a guest bedroom, or a study with a single chair and reading lamp. The blue register pairs with both warm and cool wall colours. The pile depth gives the rug presence underfoot, while the colour discipline keeps the piece from competing with the architecture of the room.

Care

Vacuum weekly with a standard upright. Spot clean with mild detergent on a clean cotton cloth, working from the outside of the spill toward the centre. The rug accepts a cool 30°C machine wash if a spill resists spot cleaning, and dries flat in a few hours indoors. No professional cleaning required at any point in the rug's life. Furniture rotation each season prevents compression at fixed points.
