Complete your setup
Gabbeh is one of those design vocabularies that survives because it never tries too hard. The compositions are restrained, the palette earns its weight slowly, and the field rewards close looking after years of casual glances.
India is where this rug was woven, by 2 weavers working approximately 4 months from a graph called a talim. Thousands of persian-asymmetric knots hold the pattern at a density of approximately 150 knots per square inch. The pile is New Zealand wool, dyed in small batches so that no two dye lots read identically across the surface.
The composition
Read the field as warm-toned laid across a calmer ground, with the Gabbeh motif acting as the tempo of the composition. The colour interaction is what carries the rug. Vegetable dye does not sit flat the way pigment printing does. It pools and breathes within each fibre, which is why the surface registers as living rather than as printed. The drawing varies subtly from row to row because the loom itself imposes a rhythm that no graph paper can fully capture.
What you are buying
At ₹26,899 the rug is an entry point to collecting hand-finished wool work. The fibre, the knot count, and the loom discipline match pieces sold at multiples of this price by Western dealers. Hand-knotted carpets do not depreciate. The pile compresses into a soft sheen, the dye deepens, and the rug is worth more in twenty years than it is today.
The piece in a room
At the size as listed, the rug holds its place as the focal element of a considered room. Pair with quiet upholstery and warm wood so the warm-toned field reads as the work the rest of the composition is arranged around.
Conservation
Vacuum weekly, suction only. Rotate the rug end for end every six months so foot traffic and natural light age the surface evenly. Blot spills with a dry cotton cloth and follow with cool water on a second pass. Hand-wash by a wool-trained conservator every five years. The piece is built to outlive several refurbishments of the room it sits in.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
