Fine Gabbeh is the workshop refinement of the tribal idiom. The motifs and the open ground stay; the knot density tightens, the wool runs finer, and the figures gain detail that a pure nomadic loom cannot hold. Navy and gold together is the boldest colour pairing in the Gabbeh repertoire, lifted from the older urban Persian rugs the tribes were exposed to through trade. Indigo gives the navy its near-black depth; weld and pomegranate together give the gold its warm honey cast. The two colours hold each other in tension across the field.
Two weavers tied roughly two and a half million Persian asymmetric knots over five months in India. The pile is hand-spun New Zealand wool, finer than the standard tribal Gabbeh, allowing the figures to read with sharper edges. Indigo was developed in a fermentation vat across three weeks, with the wool dipped six times to reach the navy depth. The gold was drawn from weld, pomegranate, and turmeric in combination. Foundation is undyed cotton, double-warped at the selvedge.
The composition
A deep navy field anchors the rug, with a generous gold central medallion and small radiating tribal markers. The navy is not a flat field; close inspection reveals subtle abrash where two indigo dye lots meet, and the colour shifts from blue-black in low light to a warmer indigo under direct sun. The gold has a slight rust undertone where the pomegranate dominates the dye blend, giving the medallion a glow rather than a mathematical flatness.
What you are buying
Fine antique Persian rugs of comparable size and indigo-and-gold palette appear at the equivalent of nine to sixteen lakh through Western dealers. This rug uses the same fibre, the same knot type, and the same dye programme. A vegetable-dyed rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating; the indigo settles slightly, the gold burnishes, and the surface gathers patina rather than wear.
The piece in a room
6' x 9' (183 x 274 cm) anchors a primary bedroom or a study with a single seating pair. The navy reads as architectural depth, the gold as a focal warm note. It pairs especially well with bookshelves in dark walnut, with brass desk lamps, with leather-bound ledgers, and with walls in pale cream that let the indigo carry the room.
Conservation
Rotate the rug end-for-end every six months. Vacuum weekly on suction only, beater bar disengaged. Blot spills with a clean cotton cloth from the outside in. A wool-trained conservator should hand-wash the rug every five years to refresh lanolin and protect the deep indigo from chalking.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
